At least 38 people died by suicide in Bangladesh between January and March 2025, with family-related issues emerging as the leading cause. According to media monitoring data compiled from over 100 newspapers, online portals, and 32 television channels, family disputes and interpersonal conflicts within households were responsible for more than half of the reported cases.
Among the 38 incidents, 13 were directly attributed to family disputes, while 9 more involved disagreements with parents or other family members. Together, these account for 58% of the total cases. Additionally, 8 suicides were reportedly provoked by others, and 2 were linked to love affairs. In 6 cases, the cause remained unknown.
Experts suggest that prolonged domestic tension, lack of mental health support, and social stigma around seeking help continue to drive vulnerable individuals toward such tragic outcomes. The data calls for urgent attention to family counseling, awareness campaigns, and expanded access to psychological services—especially at the community level.
