Between January and March 2025, Bangladesh witnessed a disturbing rise in violence against women and girls under the age of 18, as reported by national newspapers, online portals, and TV channels. The most prevalent crimes included rape (296 cases), murder (125), and suicide (118). There were also significant numbers of domestic violence cases (60), mysterious deaths (52), and incidents of sexual harassment and abuse (38). Other forms of violence ranged from dowry-related abuse to acid attacks, cybercrimes, child marriages, and corporal punishment in educational institutions. These numbers underscore an urgent need for preventive measures, accountability, and systemic reform to ensure safety and justice for women and girls across the country.
