Serious cases of violence against women and children are often reported in the media, but many incidents remain undisclosed. The Bangladesh Mahila Parishad compiled data from 16 national newspapers, revealing that 2,525 reports on violence against women and girls were published last year. Of these, 1,664 cases were reported in the first seven months (January to July), while 861 cases were reported in the last five months (August to December). In 2024, 345 women were raped, 142 were gang-raped, 23 were murdered after rape, and six committed suicide due to rape.

According to data from the Police Headquarters, an average of 12 rape cases were filed per day in February 2025. The number remained the same in February 2024. Throughout last year, 17,571 cases were filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act across the country. In January 2025, 1,440 cases were registered under this act, compared to 1,043 cases in January 2024. Between January and September 2024, a total of 4,332 rape cases were recorded in police stations and courts across the country, accounting for 34% of all cases filed under the act during that period. Additionally, 1,870 cases were filed for attempted rape.

According to the National Emergency Service (999), 348 calls reporting rape incidents were received between August 2024 and February 2025.
